Antony Harris, Chairman of Goudhurst Parish Council writes:
On June 8th we held the Goudhurst Parish Fete with sunshine and showers and a fair afternoon forecast by the BBC. We did have some sunshine peeping out occasionally between the clouds when most had gone home but the showers proved torrential. The wind blew away the parish tent to reveal Cllr Chris Ditton, sustained only by the proximity of the parish tent to the beer tent. All of which rather summed up the British and Goudhurst’s attitude to a summer fete – one just carries on regardless, gathering together under the nearest tent in close harmony (or in the tea-room) when the next cloudburst arrives. Dogs continued to be judged from the 50+ entries, wet or dry, large or small, old and young and fancy dress, with some very difficult choices to be made! All in all, though numbers were down, most of those attending seemed fortified by the experience and enjoyed the afternoon, merely remarking how fortunate we had been in recent years when sunburn was the issue.
